The GymWorks adductor and abductor in the Keywest range is a two-in-one workstation, that is, it offers two distinct types of exercises and therefore saves one machine.
The abductor and adductor work in opposition to respectively separate or bring the thighs to one another. They also play an important role as hip stabilizers during movements such as walking or running. Strengthening the abductors and adductors can help maintain a proper pelvic position and limit pressure on the knees and lower back.
The abductors include the gluteus medius and gluteus minimus, muscles located on the outer part of the hip. These two muscles are attached to the side of the pelvis, or iliac, and fit on the femur. When they contract they allow to lift the thigh to the side. They also stabilize the pelvis when walking, running, or standing on one leg. The adductors, meanwhile, are a group of five muscles of the inner thigh. They come from different points on the pelvis and attach to the back of the thigh and on the shin. When contracting the adductors, they bring the thighs towards each other.
